Textile fire curtains reduce or block the spread of heat just as well as more expensive steel fire shutters
Fire curtains separate fire compartments and so slow the spread of fire in a warehouse, production hall, shopping centre or garage for 15 to 120 minutes. Until there is a fire, the curtain is almost invisible. When the fire alarm sounds it descends under its own weight and protects lives and property. Compared with other fire shutters, FK ROLL textile curtains are lighter, smaller and easier to fit into an interior.
The technical name for a fire curtain is a “textile roller fire shutter”.

Until there is a fire, the curtains stay rolled up and do not get in the way of normal operations in production, in a warehouse or in a garage. They meet the same standards as steel fire shutters, but they are smaller, lighter, cheaper and far less conspicuous.

A roller shutter consists of a headbox housing a shaft driven by an electric motor, onto which the non-combustible fabric is wound. The fabric runs in side guides at either edge. When the fire alarm is triggered, the control unit releases the electromagnetic brake and the curtain descends under its own weight.

Textile roller fire shutters are used in buildings where it is necessary to separate fire compartments and at the same time keep a clear opening that does not visually shrink the space and can be driven through by a forklift truck or a car.
Most often that means shopping centres, airports, warehouses, garages, hospitals, office buildings and industrial complexes.
3 ways to anchor fire curtains
Installation into a structural opening
- We set the curtain directly into the opening.
- This way of fixing reduces the clear dimensions of the opening by about 20 centimetres.
- The shutter can be boxed in with plasterboard, so that in normal operation it is almost invisible.
Installation into the ceiling
- We fix the curtain to the ceiling, so the clear height of the opening stays the same.
- In this case we install the headbox flush with the suspended ceiling so that it is out of sight.
- This type of fixing suits office buildings and shopping centres, where it matters that the fire shutter does not look out of place in the interior.
Anchoring the curtain in front of the structural opening
- We fix the curtain to the lintel above the structural opening.
- The clear dimensions of the structural opening are not reduced, the structure is protected against damage from a forklift truck, for instance, and it stays easy to reach, which makes maintenance simpler.
FK ROLL EW and FK ROLL EI:
Both types resist fire for 15–120 minutes.
All FK ROLL curtains have self-closing capability C, achieved by gravity closing.
We can fix both versions of the fire shutter into the structural opening, in front of the opening and into the ceiling.
The curtain is operated by a control unit. It either communicates with the fire alarm system (EPS) or uses its own detectors.

FK ROLL MINI
- It is smaller and cheaper than the FK ROLL EW and EI curtains, yet just as effective as fire windows.
- FK ROLL MINI does not need an electric motor or a control unit. A fire melts the thermal fuse, the curtain lowers by gravity, and it separates the fire compartments.
- We anchor FK ROLL MINI fire curtains either on the façade above the window opening, or fit them directly into the opening.
- Ordinary plastic windows with an FK ROLL MINI fire curtain completely replace more expensive fire windows.
- If you choose larger FK ROLL MINI dimensions, the curtain can also take on the function of a fire door.
