Smoke barriers make smoke extraction easier in a fire
Smoke is often more dangerous than fire. Smoke barriers divide a space into several smaller smoke zones, which are then easier to clear with a smoke and heat exhaust ventilation system. We offer active FK roll smoke barriers and static FK smoke screens, both with European quality certification.

- Smoke barriers are usually installed in larger buildings of several hundred square metres. They are fitted at ceiling level, where during a fire they divide the space into several smaller smoke zones.
- Each smoke zone usually has at least one rooflight that opens automatically in a fire, so that fans or natural smoke extraction clear the products of combustion faster. Smoke barriers therefore support smoke and heat exhaust ventilation systems.
- Smoke barriers are most often fixed to the roof beams, or they can be fixed directly to the roof.

- Active smoke barriers work much like fire curtains. When there is no fire they are rolled up in a headbox and out of sight. In a fire they drop down.
- This solution is used mainly for aesthetic reasons, for example in shopping centres, supermarkets or the public areas of railway stations and airports. It also helps where a smoke barrier would get in the way of a crane or other equipment.
- Static smoke barriers are cheaper and are usually used in industrial buildings such as warehouses or production halls. Unlike the active ones, they stay in the lowered position at all times.
